I first met the social philosopher Pierre Bourdieu in 1981. The account of that encounter is a story in itself. It was like we already knew each other. As a result, I ended up going to Paris three times as a Visiting Scholar, and developing an international network of contacts which continue to this day.
I have written an embarrassing amount about Bourdieu and his ideas. I have also used them in various studies of my own: art, education, language, philosophy, music, economics.
